Directions: You ask someone for the following information. Begin your sentences with, "Do you know..."
A. You heard a student in the cafeteria say that today's history class is cancelled. You see a classmate. Ask her to make sure.
B. Karen invited you to a party for tonight, but you forgot to write down the time. You are too embarrassed to call Karen, so you ask your friend, Mike, instead.
C. You are at the shopping mall, and you have lost your cell phone. You ask a security guard for the location of the "lost and found" desk.
Directions: Change these sentences of direct speech into reported speech using noun clauses. Pay attention to punctuation, pronouns, and verb tenses.
Situation: Robert and Carol are at Robert's apartment.
Example: Robert said to Carol, "I've invited my parents and my aunt and uncle for dinner, but I don't know what to cook!"
Robert told Carol that he had invited his parents and his aunt for dinner but he didn't know what to cook.
1. Carol asked Robert, "Do you cook very often?"
2. Robert answered Carol, "No, I hardly ever cook."
3. Carol suggested, "You should cook something simple with few ingredients."
4. Carol asked, "Do you have a good cookbook?"
5. Robert answered Carol, "I have used this one before."
6. Carol asked him, "Have you chosen a recipe yet?"
7. Robert said, "I have narrowed it down to three possibilities."
8. Carol asked him, "Have you used any of these recipes before?"
9. Robert answered, "I made the chicken casserole before and it was very good."
10. Carol recommended, "You should make the chicken again."
