If so, you should consider becoming a Computer Forensics Specialist. Computer Forensics is a growing field with excellent salaries and lots of employment opportunities. Growth in this field has boomed after recent terrorist attacks and the growth of white-collar crime. Computer Forensics Specialists combine computer expertise with investigative skills and knowledge of the legal system. As a Forensic Scientist, you would be responsible for the collection of evidence on computers, writing reports, and presenting this information in court. This course maps to the International Association of Computer Investigation Specialists (IACIS) certification exam preferred by Federal, State, Local and International Law Enforcement agencies. There are no mandatory prerequisites for this course, but students should be comfortable using the Windows operating system and have a basic understanding of computer security. CompTIA A+ certification (or equivalent) will be especially useful. If you're unfamiliar with basic computer security, or could use a refresher course, consider taking Fundamentals of Network Security first. Career Opportunities: Computer Forensic Specialists are employed by state, county, and local law enforcement agencies, the FBI, Secret Service, US Customs, IRS, the US Military and military contractors, software companies, Internet Service Providers, and Fortune 500 companies.
