Class meets on Mondays, 7:00-10:10pm in HH-114

This is a Hybrid class -- part of it takes place in the classroom and part of it is online. Students will receive instructions for accessing the online portion of the class in the first class meeting.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install and configure the Windows® 7 operating system and prepare for the Microsoft® Certified Professional (MCP) Exam 70-680, a core requirement on the MCSE track.  Students will get practical experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Windows 7.   This course uses a combination of lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on labs.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this course, with appropriate study,
you will be able to:

  1. Install and upgrade to Windows 7:
    • CD-based installation
    • network installation
    • automated and remote setup tools
  2. Administer access to shared files, folders, and printers
  3. Configure and manage hardware:
    • devices
    • drivers
    • network adapters
    • remote mobile hardware
  4. Troubleshoot the Windows 7 desktop environment
    • user profiles
    • desktop settings
    • multiple locations
    • fax support
  5. Monitor performance of system memory, disk, and applications
  6. Implement the TCP/IP network protocol
    • dial-up connections
    • virtual private network connections
  7. Help ensure data and system security
    • Group Policy
    • Encrypting File System
    • Local shares and accounts

PREREQUISITES OR COREQUISITES:
Advisory: CS 101 (or equivalent knowledge), Math 151, 153 (Algebra I) or equivalent.

QUIZZES AND TESTS:
The only test for this course is the Lab Skills test during the Final Exam time. You will install Vista and configure it to my specifications.
