COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary
to be comfortable with working in a UNIX or Linux environment.
This course is normally taught using a combination of lectures,
demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on labs.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this course, with appropriate study, you will be able to:
- log on and off a Unix or Linux system
- issue commands to execute utilities
- navigate the filesystem to access files and directories
- understand basic and advanced file and directory management
- manage input and output
- modify the user environment
- find help for problems
- use vi to create and edit text files
- write a simple shell script
- understand basic file system security
- configure UNIX printing
- back up and restore data
- understand system processes and memory management
