Welcome to grammarONLINE, where you can review English grammar on the World Wide Web. grammarONLINE uses the Internet to bring helpful grammar lessons to you. These lessons include explanations, exercises, and answers. You will do some of the grammar on the computer screen. You will do some of the work using pencil/pen and paper. grammarONLINE is not as good as having a teacher help you, but it will help you understand and use English grammar better. If you have ideas for making grammarONLINE better, email me.
grammarONLINE uses frames (a way to divide up the screen into different independent parts) to divide up the browser screen into two parts:
MENU or HELP |
MAIN SCREEN |
The MENU or HELP window shows the different parts of the lesson you can go to. Click on any of the choices to go directly to another part of the lesson. During Exercises and Answers, extra information to help you understand the grammar replaces the menu. The MAIN SCREEN shows the lesson and the exercises.
If you are using a web browser that doesn't use frames, your screen is just one piece. When you click on a link, the entire window will change. You will need to use the BACK button of your browser to return to the exercise window. The MENU choices are at the bottom of each complete page.
Before you start your grammar lesson, here are the meanings of the icons (pictures) you will see as you use grammarONLINE:
go back to the last/previous page
go to the next page
go to the exercise/questions page to practice this grammar
go to the answer page for this exercise
These are special icons. You will see them on the exercise/questions pages and on the answer pages.
On the exercise/questions pages, they will be green:
If you click on
, you will get review help to do the exercise. The help will be in the window on the left side. For text-only browsers and text-readers, [green ?] will be replaced on all other pages with the label "Review help."
If you are on an answer page, it will be red.
If you click on
, you will get an explanation about the answer. The explanation will be in the window on the left side. For text-only browsers and text-readers, [red ?] will be replaced on all other pages with the label "Explanation."
You might want to print out the worksheets to work on them on paper instead of on the computer screen. You'll see a picture of a printer
when it is a good idea to print.
If you don't have a printer connected to this computer, you can also just use a sheet of paper to write your answers. The worksheets help to organize your answers, but you don't have to have them to use grammarONLINE.
If you ready to start, click on the section you want to work on in the window on the left or on the menu at the bottom of this page.
Once you are in the right section, if you want to go to a different part of the lesson, choose your section from the MENU.
