EBSCOhost's Academic Search Premier is an online periodical index and full-text database covering thousands of journals. As an online system, it is being updated daily. Periodical research is very important in certain fields of knowledge, especially those in which being up-to-date is important, such as business, science, medicine and current events. (Books take a while to get into print and circulation, so may not contain the most current information.)
When you search Academic Search Premier you will find citations to articles (name of publication, date, title of article, pages). Click on the title to read an abstract (summary) of the article. If the complete article is available on the computer, a link to "Full Text" will appear along with the title. The library subscribes to some of the periodicals that are not full-text on the computer. To find out if the library receives a publication, check the "Note" following each citation. If the article is available in full-text in another database the library subscribes to, the link to "Find Full-text Options" will dircect you to that resource.
From the Library databases page, click on the link to Academic Search Premier. Enter keywords central to your research topic, then click Search. By default, your search is set to look for the words you type as a phrase (right next to each other in the order you type them). If you want to search for two words not as a phrase, separate them with the connecting word "and."
For example:

looks for exactly the phrase "green building practices," while:

looks for the phrase "building practices" along with the word "green."
When you click on search, a list of articles containing all the words you typed will be displayed.
Note that for all searches you can limit your results to retrieve only articles that are full-text online, by checking the "Full Text" box under "Limit your results." You can also limit your search results to only articles from peer-reviewed journals.

To search by subject, click on link for "Subject Terms" towards the top of the search screen, enter your subject in the "Browse for" box and click "browse." You will be shown an alphabetical index of subject terms. Check the box next to the term you are interested in and then click on the "Add" button to add your term to the search in the Find box. You can continue to build your search with additional subject terms, and then click on Search to retrieve results.

Use the online help function to learn about additional searching options. Or ask at the Information Desk and a Librarian will be happy to assist you.
