Grading Policy

This is a credit/no credit class, worth .5 units. You will receive credit based on the following:

1. Class attendance/participation.

2. Satisfactory completion of all assignments and exercises.
 
 


Class Schedule

Class meets from 12-4:30 p.m. on two consecutive Saturdays in the months of April, July and November.  Consult Class catalog for exact dates and registration procedures.

Day One

Topics:
Course overview and objectives.
Introduction to research process.
Introduction to Internet and World Wide Web.
Overview of Internet information technology.
In-Class Exercises.

Break

Topics:
Develop a Search Strategy.
Find a topic.
Identify concepts, terms, keywords.
Use vocabularies.
Distinguish between simple search engines and metasearch engines.
Learn to use directories and expert websites.
Find out what the Deep Web is and what's not free.
In-Class Exercises.

Homework Assignment.

Day Two

Topics:
Advanced searching.
Evaluate Websites and content.
Inroduction to Copyright and Plagiarism rules.
Introduction to Citation.
In-class Exercises.

Break.

Topics:
Class practice time.
Final In-class Exercises.
