About Ohlone College
Maps & Directions

In this spring gallery show, an eclectic collection of high quality paintings, photographs, and digital imagery created by several San Francisco Bay Area Art Educators will surround you.  As evidenced by the high quality of the artwork, these artists have a very thorough understanding of what they’re doing. Not only do these exhibitors relate in that they all teach fine arts, but they also find time to allow their own creativity to flow, expanding their knowledge and experience in their mediums of choice. Ultimately, exhibiting the artwork of art educators permits the Ohlone community to outreach to their own future educators and to develop a greater sense of possibilities in the Bay Area art society.

The diversity of this invitational show is accredited to the wide range of talented local artists - most notably David Hardy and Rob Anderson who run the well-known and highly regarded Atelier School of Classical Realism in Oakland, a private non-accredited seminar.  Some exhibitors - such as Chris Leib, Gage Opdenbrouw, Shilo Ratner, and Christian Fagerlund (who also teaches for Ohlone) - run independent seminars and workshops at community centers and teach privately in their studios.  Artists Denise Owen, Kenney Mencher, Lisa Levine, Paddy Moran and Dana Davis instruct at Ohlone College and or other academic institutions and college extensions.

One of the several goals set by Ohlone College in their mission statement is to “promote the cultural vitality of the communities served by the district through programs of outreach, community services, and partnership ventures.” In conjunction with this intent, exhibitors and gallery co-directors Christian Fagerlund and Kenney Mencher created an objective for gallery shows to “have exhibits that are relevant to and integrated with the Fremont and Ohlone Community.” The Bay Area Art Educators’ show obliges both of these missions and allows for any interested community members or students to seek out wanted art education and inspiration. This gallery show serves the community as a unique networking opportunity allowing artists to come together in person and promote growth of the local art scene.

It would not be wrong to claim that the San Francisco Bay Area is a well-known, bustling art community. As an art student, one would be very fortunate to be a part of such a diverse area, surrounded by such gifted art instructors. Perhaps you’re new to the art world, or you’re experienced at  looking for visual stimulation - this gallery show not only gives you a preview of the infinite possibilities in terms of medium but it also gives information necessary to connect with an artist or future art instructor.
