Spring 2006 - Main Gallery 

Locke Heemstra: Dream Tours 

  • Golden Bridge in Venice, ItalyTuesday, February 14 - Sunday, March 19, 2006 
  • Guest Artist Workshop: Wednesday, February 22, 12:00pm (noon) - 1:30pm
Travel locations and romantic landscapes in Greece, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Hawaii and most recently, Florence are photographed on site with a "4 x 5 camera" which are exhibited as large-size giclee prints on streched canvas. Crisp details, bright color and Heemstra's aesthetic bring a fresh view to seemingly familiar yet far away exotic sites. Locke Heemstra will give a noon to 1:30pm workshop sharing his experience in actually making a living via his artwork. 

Be My Valentine

  • Friday, February 10 - Thursday, February 28, 2006 
The ever-popular Valentine show returns this year with original one-of-a-kind art-Valentines. Artworks can be submitted up to February 7 to the Louie Meager Art Gallery by mail or in-person. Artworks must be able to hang on/from the exhibit wall and not be larger than 18" x 24". Three "Best of Show" prizes will be awarded:
  1. under 18 years of age
  2. over 18 years of age, and
  3. the most creative
Students, campus workers and visitors are all welcome to enter. No fee. Juror: Margaret Stainer, Gallery Director. 

High School Theatre Festival Art Show 

  • Friday, March 31 - Saturday, April 1, 2006 
This year during the annual High School Theater Festival produced by the Ohlone College Theater Department, which draws contestants from California and neighboring states, the gallery will present selected artworks of the talented high school creatives participating in the vibrant teenage festival. 

Ching Ming

  • Monday, April 3 - Wednesday, April 19, 2006 
For the second year, the gallery will celebrate the ancient traditional Asian annual custom of honoring and remembering the familial ancestors in the cemeteries and in the homes on April 5 . Authentic Ching Ming articles and memorabilia donated by former student, Chai Ng, will be on display plus incense and joss papers available in local Fremont Asian stores. 

Annual Fine Art and Design Juried Student Show 

  • Friday, April 29 - Tuesday, May 16, 2006
  • Reception/Awards Ceremony: Wednesday, May 10, 6:30pm - 8:30pm 
Each year the Ohlone College fine arts and design students compete to exhibit in this juried show. Everyone looks forward to this highlight event of the Ohlone College Art and Design Department, which presents over 200 of the best student works from the past three semesters. Many awards of excellence and prizes (last year over $3000) donated by the ASOC (Associated Students of Ohlone College), local supportive vendors and this art gallery are awarded to outstanding students in each media. 

Special Hours Open only for this show: 10:00am to 3:00pm weekdays, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and during Smith Center events.
