Philip Zahorsky
Philip Zahorsky conducted the Ohlone College Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensembles since their inception in 1976 and proudly led the Ohlone Wind Orchestra from its inception in 1990 through the Spring of 2001.
Mr. Zahorsky continues to teach Music Fundamentals, Music Appreciation, Instrumental Music, History of Jazz, and Piano.
His professional conducting responsibilities include appointment as Music Director of the Festival Brass Ensemble with the Music in the Mountains Chamber Orchestra.
Mr. Zahorsky has been the bass-trombonist with the Symphony Silicon Valley (formerly San Jose Symphony) since 1973. He has performed several years as the first-call extra and substitute bass-trombonist with the San Francisco Symphony under Seiji Ozawa, Edo de Wart, Leonard Slatkin and a host of other major conductors. He recorded "Pines of Rome" with the San Francisco Symphony under Edo de Wart. After his Master's degree program at San Jose State University, Mr. Zahorsky studied conducting privately for two years with Dobbs Franks, Music Director of the Australian Ballet Company and the Christchurch Chamber Orchestra.
