CHINESE LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TESTING --- FALL 2008

The Chinese diagnostic assessment for the coming school year – 2008-2009 – will be once again Internet-delivered through our college’s WebCT. The computerized placement testing is intended for those incoming students who wish to waive the CHIN101A prerequisite as well as for those returning students who wish to skip to a higher level and the student's subsequent placement will be determined by his/her test result. The purpose of this test is to help students be placed in courses appropriate to their level of language proficiency. Before taking any placement tests, students need to submit an admission application to Ohlone College and obtain an Ohlone College student ID number. The admission application can be found online or in the center of the Class Schedule. High school students must receive approval prior to your enrollment at Ohlone. Ohlone has an approval form you can obtain at the College’s Admissions and Records Office or off their website at www.ohlone.edu/org/admissions/highschool.html. During the school year, your high school counselor must sign approval forms. During the summer, staff in the District Superintendent’s Office must sign approval forms.

Students need to read and follow the directions below:

Students must sign up for taking the Chinese Placement Test.

Students must bring an Ohlone College ID number.

The entire testing process will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

No word translators, dictionaries, or other study aids are allowed during the test.

Students should meet outside Hyman Hall 2^nd floor at least 20 minutes before the test.

Late students are not admitted.

Students must sign up first with the requested information in order for us to create ID and password for you to log onto WebCT to access the placement test; and this will help as well avoid overflow on any one particular testing day due to limited capacity of the room. Our first days of school -- Saturday, September 6, 2008 and Sunday, September 7, 2008 – will be placement testing. Students who opt not to take the placement test may stay home.
